SUMMARY:RAIN Africa Workshop: Responsible AI and Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Topic: AI and Agriculture \nDate: 22/07/2020 \nTime: 12:00 – 13:30 GMT (14:00 – 15:30 Munich Time) \n  \nSpeakers  \nChristian Adumatta Gyampomah \nChristian Adumatta Gyampomah \nResearch Associate at Emerging Networks and Technologies Lab \nChristian Adumatta Gyampomah is currently a researcher at the Emerging Networks and Technologies Lab – KNUST in Kumasi\, Ghana\, where research is conducted around Artificial Intelligence\, IoT\, Big Data\, Network Security\, Business Intelligence and more.\nHis research interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning stems from first-hand experience on the need for smarter systems in his work experience so far. Aside numerous projects embarked on during undergraduate years (including an IoT device that remotely controls domestic electrical appliances from an app)\, Christian helped set up\, and managed a large campus-based Gigabit Passive Optical network where he got into the habit of automating various tasks like device configurations and user service allocation. \nAt the ENT Lab\, he has developed an AI-based mobile platform to optimize and reduce post-harvest losses across rural agricultural value chains.\nHe has a passion for anything futuristic. \nChristian is graduating with a First Class in Telecommunications Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. \n  \nDarlington Akogo \nFounder\, Executive Director at GUDRA; \nAlso holds roles at: karaAgro AI\, minoHealth AI Labs\, Runmila AI Institute \nDarlington Akogo \nDarlington Akogo is a global leader in the field of AI. He is the Founder and Director of Artificial Intelligence at GUDRA and its subsidiaries: minoHealth\, minoHealth AI Labs\, karaAgro AI\, Runmila AI Institute\, and Gudra AI Studio. Akogo is involved in AI and tech across several other platforms and industries.\nHe’s the Lead of the Topic Group on AI4Radiology under the United Nations International Telecommunication Union and the World Health Organization’s Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (AI4H). At UN AI4H\, Akogo leads the development of global regulations and standards for AI in radiology.\nHe is an Advisory Board Member and Ambassador to West Africa at AI Expo Africa\, the largest business focused AI community in Africa. In addition to this work\, Akogo is involved with the MIT Tech Review Global Panel and the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers. Akogo also taught as Lecturer (Adjunct Faculty) of Artificial Intelligence at Academic City College and is the Bioinformatics (AI & Data Analytics) Resource Person at West African Centre for Cell Biology and Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP). He has spoken at numerous international conferences including NeurIPS\, MIT’s Global CommunityBioSummit\, and the ACP Heads of States and Government Summit\, amongst others. Akogo also writes reports and essays for Synapse Magazine and articles for MIT Tech Review Insights. \n  \nDr. Joyce Nakatumba-Nabende \nLecturer at Makere University \nDr. Joyce Nakatumba-Nabende \nDr. Joyce Nakatumba-Nabende is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the School of Computing and Informatics Technology\, Makerere University. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Eindhoven University of Technology\, The Netherlands. Joyce is also the scientific head of the Makerere Artificial Intelligence research lab. She leads a team of researchers that carry out research in the application of machine learning techniques in areas of agriculture and health to solving problems in the developing world. Her research interests are in the areas of machine learning\, process mining\, data science and software engineering and their applications in agriculture and health. \n  \nPlease use the form below to register for the event. \nPlease note: We will send out the link to all registered attendees one day prior to the event.
