The researcher Konstantin Riedl has participated in a Workshop on Mathematical Machine Learning and Application that was held virtually at Penn State University during December 14-16, 2020. The workshop aimed to address the recent efforts in answering the questions related to a rigorous mathematical understanding of the empirical success of machine learning. Moreover, in the workshop the researchers explored the possible development of a theory guaranteeing the success of modern data-driven scientific computational methods and how to relate such young and emerging field to existing problems in numerical analysis.

This research is aligned to the objective of the project “Online Firestorms and Resentment Propagation on Social Media”, which aims to generate guidelines for ethical aspects of AI by trying to embed advances in the rigorous mathematical understanding of machine learning into such guidelines.
