In August, researcher Wienke Strathern participated in a three day online workshop in the topic Longitudinal Social Network Analysis around the RSiena software. This workshop is particularly relevant for the analysis of the dynamically changing social networks.
Prof. Dr. Pfeffer, organized a virtual event, where the student of his “Computational Social Science” class presented their research. This class was motivated by his research around the development and propagation of negative dynamics on social media and this semester it focused on Polarization and Radicalization.
The workshop aimed to address the recent efforts in answering the questions related to a rigorous mathematical understanding of the empirical success of machine learning.
The paper presented is co-authored by Wienke Strathern, Raji Ghawi, Mirco Schönfeld and Jürgen Pfeffer. The authors explored the outbreak of online firestorms on Twitter. They used data from twitter to investigate the starting points of several firestorm outbreaks.
The thesis aims to investigate how German political newspaper journalists are connected and how that impacts the information exchange and diffusion.

The PI Pr.Dr.Pfeffer is one of the organizers of this year's Sunbelt Conference, which is an annual meeting of the International Network of Social Network Analysis (INSNA). The event took place virtually from the 13th to the 17th of July.
